Yesterday, November 3rd, 2018, Coldwater High School's Boys Varsity Soccer Team won their first Division 2 State Title in school history, yes history, defeating Marshall by a score of 2-1 in extra time.
The goal in extra time was scored by the Cardinal's right back Koby Stewart in a penalty kick. Marshall conceded the kick when a Marshall midfielder shoved Stewart, getting a yellow card in the process. Stewart, a junior defender for the Cardinals. With minutes left in extra time, Koby calmly stepped up to the ball and perfectly placed it into the bottom right corner of the net the exact opposite of where the goalkeeper dove.
After the game, Cardinal head Coach Ken Delaney described the goal as an
absolute beauty of a shot. Koby has really stepped up this season as a leader and this is
just one example of that.
As the final seconds ticked off the clock at Cardinal field,
students rushed onto the field in celebration as they bring home the school's first
Division
2 State title.
